I am pleased to announce that the board held its first meeting this year on May 11th

To our Members,

 

One of the issues discussed, and at length, is our dwindling roster. In seven years our roster dropped by 14 members, from 52 in 2005 to our current 38, of which 5 are on injured list. The continued decline has caused grave concern because not only are we not meeting our contract with the golf courses but also our inability to replace those who left.

 

Ideas to attract new members were discussed and after considering a number of suggestions the board has voted to award members $50.00 gift certificate for every new member recruited provided the recruit stays with our club at least one year.

 

Our General Meeting will be held next month at the Santa Anita Park (under the old oak tree). Donuts and coffee will be served at 7:00 AM and the meeting will start at 7:30 AM. Among the issues in our agenda is the election of club officers; President, Secretary and Treasurer.

 

The format of our tournament at Santa Anita is match play. Details will be announced at a later date.

 

See you at Santa Anita and I suggest you start thinking about your choice of officers.

                 Cost $75.00 includes golf / buy in

 

 June 4th  Saturday  blind draw partner  11:45am Tee Time.

Revised point standing at Oak Creek

At the request of Nilo I reviewed the point standings after the Oak Creek tournament as he feels he may have missed or omitted some data from the previous tournament. As suspected a couple were found and corrected.

Championship Tournament - Canceled Again Due to Rain!

We had a special breakfast today. The drive was long but the food was good, and the company was great. And by the demeanor of our members as they entered the dinning hall, one could easily tell they were all raring to have fun and play, not to mention grab the much coveted championship trophies.

 

On a serious note, I know that as much as everyone was ready to play, the weather just did not cooperate, and thanks to Rick, he managed to convince the management to reverse their stand and agreed to cancel the tournament.

 

I was further impressed by the attendance… Out of the 27 scheduled to play only 2 did not arrive. With that kind of weather that was very impressive.

 

The day was not a total loss however because we accomplished two very important things. We were able to get the commitment of those present to stay with the club for at least another year and get a head count for our dinner. What’s left is for the rest to mail their renewal checks to Rick ASAP as we have to update our roster by December 31st, and email me whether they will attend the dinner or not. A word of caution, we will be forced to drop from the roster those who fail to send Rick their renewal checks and I understand SCGA imposes an additional fee for reinstatement.

 

With regards to the Club Championship and Tournament of Champions tournaments, we will hold them on January 9, 2011 at The Retreat Golf Course. I hope the adage “3rd is a charm” holds true because it would be a shame not to crown a champion this year, which hasn’t happened in the history of our club.

 

I have attached the renewal list and dinner head count for your review to insure accuracy. Feel free to contact me should you find any discrepancy.

2011 Dinner

There will be a head count at Black Gold for our dinner. As previously announced the dinner will be held on January 15, 2011 at Dal Rae Restaurant .

 

Prepare to give us the following information:

 

  1. Whether you are attending or not.
  2. Whether you have guest and how many. (First guest will cost you $25.00 (50% discount). Extra guest will cost you the full amount of $50.00.
  3. Your choice of entrée. Selections are: Filet Mignon, Chilean Sea bass or Prime Rib.

To those who will not play at Black Gold please email me your responses ASAP.

M.C.C. 2011 Desert Classic Update

After MANY phone calls to M.C.C, the final Date for the classic is June the 3rd. Friday & June the 4th Saturday.

Again, Anita & I hope you all can make it. Will send more info in May.

2011 Membership Renewal

Our renewal for 2011 is now due.

If you will play at Black Gold on December 19th you can pay the fees when you check-in.

If you will not play you have to mail your check ASAP to: Rick Brimecombe, 4662 Eagle Rock Blvd. , Los Angeles , CA 90041 .

This is to meet the SCGA’s imposed deadline to submit the club’s roster on December 31st.

Fees are as follows:

·         Not playing at Black Gold - $80.00

·         Playing Black Gold - $180.00

·         New members - $145.00

Golf match with MMGC

After all the preparations that we have made, I regret to inform everyone that we got word from the president of MMGC that our impending match with them on December 5th has been cancelled because they could not get a tee time. At this time they are pushing for March 6, 2011.

 

We shall keep you posted for any development.
